  • Animals, subtraction and Beegu!

    Published 21/02/24

We are very pleased with the way the children have settled into their usual routines after the half term holiday- well done Year 1!

In our science lessons we are now looking at animals and have started sorting them into different groups (please see the pic above!) by looking at similarities and differences. This topic will continue for the rest of the spring term. In maths, we have continued with subtraction using our mental maths skills and different written methods. We have also been using different maths vocabulary each lesson. How many different ways can you think of to say ‘subtract’?

We are also really enjoying our new class text ‘Beegu’ and we have been reading, acting and writing a character description with a focus on using adjectives. We are looking forward to welcoming you into class on Friday so that we can share all of our fabulous learning!

In Religious Education we have learnt all about synagogues and draw some really colourful ones in our books. In Art we have learnt about the different types of crafts and we have wrapped wool around card and sticks and learn how to weave using colourful paper and card.  Finally in history we have been learning about early types of planes and comparing them with jet planes that we travel on today.
