  • Bees

    We have been looking at bumblebees and honey bees this week and have learnt some of the differences between them. The children made a class hive and made their own bees with their faces on.  They also wrote some facts about bees and chose whether to make a butterfly, ladybird, snail or bee.

  • Snails and slugs

    In Reception this week we have been continuing our minibeast topic looking at snails and slugs. We read the book Snail Trail and have been planning out, drawing and measuring our own snail's journey around the classroom. We have also been learning lots of different facts about slugs and snails and each of the children made a fact page. There have been some amazing transient art snails produced this week and the children have done a fantastic job taking pictures of their own snails.

  • Minibeasts

    This week we started our new topic of minibeasts. The children have loved telling us how much they already know about minibeasts and learning some new facts. We have been reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and talked about the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly. The children wrote short sentences in booklets to retell the story and completed addition number hunts around the classroom. In class we are learning lots of minibeast songs.

  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears

    This week, Reception have been looking at the traditional tale 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. We have had a great time working through a D&T project making chairs and discussing the different types of materials you might use to make chairs for different purposes. The children also used simple co-ordinates to draw traditional tales characters to fill up their town on a map.

  • The Three Billy Goats Gruff and adjectives

    This week Reception have been learning the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' and acting it out in class. We have had a focus on adjectives and produced some great pictures with all of the descriptive words the children could think of to talk about their character.

  • The Enormous Turnip

    This week Reception have had a great time learning and innovating 'The Enormous Turnip'. The children acted out the traditional tale playing the characters and they had the option to draw a story map, a story board or make a short book to describe what happens. We had some fun and interesting changes to the original story.​

  • Capacity and The Three Little Pigs

    This week we have been learning our new traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs' and have made finger puppets for the children to perform in the class theatre. They also worked on making strong houses that the wolf's huffing and puffing would not knock down. We have also been looking at capacity to find different measurements, looking at full, half- full and empty.

  • Circuits and The Gingerbread Man

    This week we have been experimenting with electrical circuits using batteries, bulbs, buzzers and motors. We also started looking at 'The Gingerbread Man' our new traditional tale for this week.  The children had fun drawing their story map and acting out the story for the class.

  • Traditional Tales

    It has been great to be back in Reception after the Easter Break and everyone is happy to be with their friends again. We have started our new topic of Traditional Tales looking at 'The Little Red Hen'. The children have enjoyed making finger puppets of the characters in the story and then re telling the story for the rest of the class.

  • Doubling, Recycling and Singing!

    This week Reception have been working on their doubling and subtraction number sentences. The children used mirrors to help them visualise the answer. We found out about the importance of recycling and looked at the three R's - reduce, reuse and recycle. We had fun looking at some of the different materials that could be recycled and sorted objects into different categories based on this. Reception have had a brilliant time working on some Spring songs and are looking forward to performing on Monday 29th (Squirrels), Tuesday 30th (Dormice) and Wednesday 31st (Rabbits) at 2:30pm.
