    We have had another fantastic week in Reception. Phonics has been going well and this week we looked at ck, e, u and r. 

    In maths we have been learning about the number 3 and the children have been working out all of the different ways to show it. They have had a great time looking for 3 in the environment as well, finding it in lots of different places. We carried the theme of 3 into our PE and each activity was linked to it.

    The children have been brilliant this half-term and have settled in well. We hope you all have a lovely half-term.

  • Black History Month: Mo Farah and Faith Ringgold

    This week in Reception we have been learning the phonemes g, o, c, and k. In class we have been talking about Mo Farah and Faith Ringgold. We have been making pieces of art showing the children flying over somewhere they would love to be using Faith Ringgold's tapestry and quilt work for inspiration. We have had a focus on number 2, finding out about all of the different ways it can be made. The children have also been continuing their repeated pattern work.

  • Phonics and PE

    In phonics this week we have covered the phonemes p,i,n,m and d the children have been doing a great job with this. We had our first indoor PE session which went very well, all of the children listened brilliant and took part in the activities. The children have been working on putting on their own coats and doing up the zips. This is helping them to become more independent, as they can do this themselves when going out for playtime.

  • Phonics, patterns and Christmas pictures

    We have had a brilliant week in Reception. The children have started to learn the first phonemes starting with s, a and t. They have enjoyed thinking of all the different things that begin with those sounds. In maths, we have been looking at shapes and patterns, we have all enjoyed making our own repeated patterns.  Although it may seem slightly early we have been making the Cauliflower groups Christmas picture cards and the children have been doing a great job with these. These will be coming home for you to look at next week. All of the children looked very smart for their first Sheen Mount School photograph.

  • Teddy Bear's Picnic

    This week Reception have had a great time sharing their soft toys with the class. They really enjoyed playing games, making and eating their sandwiches for the Teddy Bear's Picnic. We have had a focus on mark making in the outside area using water and paint brushes. The children have also enjoyed using the big wooden blocks to build large models in the construction area.

  • Getting to know each other

    The children have had a brilliant second week in Reception. We have continued with getting to know each other and they are doing a great job of learning each others' names. They have enjoyed the Rainbow Challenges this week and the children completed lots of them. We are looking forward to seeing all of the teddies and soft toys the children send in next week for the Teddy Bear's Picnic.

  • Starting in Reception

    We have had a fantastic time this week getting to know each other in Reception. The children have had a great time finding out about their new classrooms and all of the things they can do in school. Their first taster session of lunch was a great success today and we are looking forward to Monday when they are all in together for the whole day.

  • Dinosaurs

    This week we have been looking at dinosaurs, the children have had a great time learning lots of facts about a range of dinosaurs. At the beginning of the week it was great to find out what they already knew about them. We then went on to look at the features of different carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The children have enjoyed making different habitats for the dinosaurs to live in, making dinosaur parks and drawing pictures of them.

  • Riddles and shape!

    ​We have had a fantastic week in Reception continuing our learning about the different invertebrates/minibeasts with a focus on ants. Everyone picked something to write a riddle about, giving clues for the other children to guess what they were thinking of. The children have enjoyed finding and sorting 2D and 3D shapes from our inside and outside classrooms. Sports day was a great success and we had a fantastic time with all of the activities!

  • Spiders!

    This week we have had a focus on spiders, the children have loved learning all of the different facts about them. They were fascinated when we found out that some spiders do not spin webs. We had great fun making spider catching games and the children made up new rules to make them more challenging and interesting. The pumpkins and sunflowers we planted have been growing well and are starting to take over the outside classroom.

  • Bees

    Published 25/06/21

    We have been looking at bumblebees and honey bees this week and have learnt some of the differences between them. The children made a class hive and made their own bees with their faces on.  They also wrote some facts about bees and chose whether to make a butterfly, ladybird, snail or bee.

  • Snails and slugs

    Published 18/06/21

    In Reception this week we have been continuing our minibeast topic looking at snails and slugs. We read the book Snail Trail and have been planning out, drawing and measuring our own snail's journey around the classroom. We have also been learning lots of different facts about slugs and snails and each of the children made a fact page. There have been some amazing transient art snails produced this week and the children have done a fantastic job taking pictures of their own snails.
