Sunsets and 5 senses!

Year 1 have been having lots of fun learning about the seven continents of the world and the five oceans. We are learning their names and discovering where they are located around the world. We have been linking this new knowledge to our art lessons, where we painted beautiful African sunsets. We used our colour-mixing skills to mix red and yellow together to create orange, and we experimented with making different shades of orange too.

During carousel, we have been enjoying writing about the five senses and describing what we can see on the tail of the whale in The Snail and the Whale. We are using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our writing.

In maths, we have been practising our number formation and have started learning the vocabulary greater than, less than and equal to. We are also learning to use the correct symbols to show our understanding.

In science, we are building on our understanding of the human body and learning about our five senses. This week, we went on a sound hunt around the school to explore the different sounds we could hear. We heard lots of interesting noises, including a piano playing, the wind blowing through the leaves, a lawn mower and an aeroplane!

It has been a busy and exciting week of learning for Year 1!
