Pirates, plants and a heatwave!

Year 1 have had a busy 2 weeks in the heat!
Last week we enjoyed a range of career talks from various parents and the children loved finding out about their jobs!
In English we have been learning all about pirates! We explored facts, sang some sea shanties and also made our own treasure maps. We have also written some quiz cards so get ready to have your pirate knowledge put to the test!
In maths we have been learning about numbers 50-100. We have used a number line and hundred square to find one more and one less and also compared numbers using greater than, less than and equals symbols.
In science we enjoyed planting and growing our own sunflowers. We have learnt about what they need to grow and also the different parts of a plant.
In history we learnt all about the Battle of Stamford Bridge and who became the next king after Edward the Confessor.
In DT we have been learning all about stable structures. We investigated how weight can help keep our structures stable and made small basketball hoops. We have also designed our pencil pots ready to make next week.
