World Book Day!

Fruit salads, more flight and Beegu!
Published 13/02/25We have had a great few weeks in Year 1.
In DT, we have been designing and making our own fruit salads! We used our chopping and peeling skills to make the salad, and tasted them afterwards. Yum!
Over the last few weeks in English, we have been reading the story ‘Beegu’. We acted out the story and created story maps, and then used our inference skills to write about how a character is feeling. We have also practiced writing sentences using the conjunction ‘because’.
In maths, we have been learning about doubles and near doubles, and have used numicon and tens frames to practice these. We have also practised subtraction within 20 by counting back and using our number bonds!
In history, we have been finishing our topic ‘The history of flight’. This week, we looked at the future of flight, how aircraft might change in the next 100 years. We then designed an example of how aircraft might look in 100 years!
We have had a great first half of the spring term. We hope you have a lovely half term break!

Christmas potions!
Published 12/12/24Its almost Christmas in Year 1! This week we have had lots of fun. Moles and Hedgehogs have enjoyed their final forest school sessions with marshmallows and a fire!
In English, we have started reading ‘Room on the ‘Broom’. We have loved making our own potions in carousel!
In History, we have been looking at significant explorers. This week, we learnt about Neil Armstrong and the children loved making their own rockets!
In maths, we have been learning all about shapes. We explored lots of different shapes and did a shape hunt around the classroom, finding rectangles, squares, circles and triangles.
In science, we have continued our topic ‘materials’. This week we learnt all about what a waterproof material is and conducted our own experiment for choosing the best material for an umbrella.
We have loved singing our Christmas songs too! Have a lovely Christmas holiday!
