Year 1 have had a wonderful final week! The highlight was definitely our Superhero day. We dressed up as our favourite superheroes, had a parade and played lots of fun games.
We also enjoyed finishing our DT project, designing and making our own playground equipment.
We hope you have a lovely, relaxing summer!
This week we have role-played the battle of Hastings with our beautifully decorated, colourful shields. We then moved into a new topic of superheroes and have written a description of Supertato who saved all the veggies from evil pea! In maths, we have been learning about weight and capacity. We practised weighing objects with weights and we have investigated the capacity of a variety of school containers. In PE we had our amazing sports day and during the week we practised our running and ball skills. In art we have been learning about different types of brushes and how to use them by applying different amount of pressure to make thick and thin lines. Finally, in RE, we made a mosaic of a mosque using our learning on Islamic patterns and in computing we have made a snail in the style of Henri Matisse using our paints IT package.
Year 1 have had a great week. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the Battle of Hastings in history and English. The children did some drama all reenacting the battle between Harold Godwinson and William Duke of Normandy. We then wrote a descriptive diary as if we were one of the Saxon soldiers imagining what we might have seen or heard during the battle. We enjoyed painting our shields ready to act out our own battle next week!
In maths, we have continued looking at money. We made amounts in different ways. We then made different amounts using coins to buy items from our own shop in the classroom!
In computing, we did some digital painting and looked at the work of Piet Mondrian who used lots of lines, shapes and bright colours in his work. We created our own Mondrian artwork on the computers.
In PE, we have been practising relays, jumping and throwing ready for sports day next week.
Year 1 have had a lovely week, with the highlight being their Forest School Day on Wednesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed making beautiful crowns and sceptres, using things they found in our outdoor areas and we hope you enjoyed seeing what they made. They also had fun building homes for bugs in the afternoon, with some very elaborate creations and luxury homes for our bugs!
In history and English this week we looked at what happened during the Battle of Stamford Bridge. The children explored, through drama and writing, what it might have been like to be a soldier in the battle and also made a story map to sequence the events. The children are so excited to find out what happens next and who eventually becomes King, which we shall reveal next week!
In maths, we have been looking at money with a focus on coin recognition and the value of each coin. We will be continuing to look at money and making different amounts next week so any extra practice by looking at coins and paying for things this weekend will be a help.
