    Where the Wild Things Are!

This week we have finished our work on the story of "Where the Wild things are". We planned a wild rumpus to celebrate the end and bought in a party snack from home. We have continued our learning on addition in maths looking at patterns and links with the number bonds. In Religious Education we have learnt all about synagogues and draw some really colourful ones in our books. In Art we have learnt about the different types of crafts and we have wrapped wool around card and sticks and learn how to weave using colourful paper and card.  Finally in history we have been learning about early types of planes and comparing them with jet planes that we travel on today.

  • Forest School, Bossy Verbs and everything Christmas!

    Published 13/12/23

Another busy week in Year 1! The children have now had their last Forest school session and it is definitely something we will all miss- and look forward to doing again in Year 2. We have had lots of fun making, creating, building- and looking out for those mischievous Dobbies! We were also lucky enough to have a campfire and toast sugar apples. A big thank you to Melissa, our Forest School leader.  In Carousel, with a focus on Room on the Broom, we have been Witches and Wizards creating a magical potion. This week, we have been using ‘Bossy’ verbs to write a set of instructions to go with our Christmassy spells. Year 1 have also been practising their Christmas singing and are really looking forward to putting on an amazing performance for you all this Thursday. Have a lovely weekend. The Year 1 team.

  • Asia, Part - Whole Models and friendship

    Published 11/10/23

This week we continued our geography topic on the 7 Continents with a focus on Asia. We visited China and, while we were there, we saw The Great Wall (please see the picture above!) and sketched an animal native to this country- the Panda. We learnt that Asia is the biggest Continent (which is why it comes first in the song!) as well as other fascinating facts. In maths, we have started our unit on addition and subtraction and have been using Part –whole models.  In our science carousel, we have been using our sense of touch to feel and then describe different objects in a ‘feely bag’. Finally, in our PSHE lesson, we came up with some wonderful ideas about being a good friend. Have a lovely rest of the week! The year 1 team.
