Crayons, Counting & Curious Minds!

What a fantastic start to Year 2 we have had! The children have settled in so well and have made a brilliant start to their new year. We have been busy establishing routines, getting to know one another and preparing for an exciting year ahead. We are so proud of them!

📚 English

In English, we have been reading The Day the Crayons Quit. The children enjoyed meeting the different crayons and discussing their emotions, thinking about how they feel and why. We have had some lovely conversations about feelings and how characters can have different opinions.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been exploring tens and ones using base-ten equipment. The children have been making groups of 10 and learning how numbers can be made up of tens and ones. They have enjoyed getting hands-on with the equipment and developing their understanding of place value.

🕵️ History

We had an exciting mystery discovery to introduce our new history topic! The children were presented with mystery items and challenged to work out what they could tell us. They asked thoughtful questions, shared ideas and worked together to piece together what might have happened. We are excited to discover more about our topic - The Great Fire of London!

🎨 Art

In Art, we have been exploring self-portraits. The children have been looking carefully at facial features and thinking about what makes each of us unique. They have enjoyed creating their own artwork and showing their creativity.

🏊 Swimming

The children have also made a fantastic start to swimming this week. They have shown great enthusiasm and are beginning to build their confidence in the water. Well done, everyone!

We are looking forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, laughter, creativity and exciting discoveries. Thank you for your continued support as we begin this new chapter together.

Well done, Year 2!
