This week in Year 2 we have been finishing our own version of the story of Lost and Found. We are so proud of the wonderful stories that Year 2 have created this half term, they have been working so hard! In maths we have been looking at measurement and learning about millimetres, centimetres and mitres. We have had lots of fun measuring different things around the classroom. Finally, in science we finished off our topics of Everyday Materials by creating a collage made from recycled materials. Year 2 are very passionate about protecting the environment and fighting climate change.

What materials would we use to make a waterproof bag?

This week in English, we looked at the story of 'Up and Down' by Oliver Jeffers in which the penguin character goes to join a circus! We then thought about what acts we would have at our circus and came up with ideas like a human cannonball and a dancing unicorn! We then described our circus persuasively using description and show not tell like 'eyes pop' and 'heart sing'. In history, we decorated boxes to create houses from the Great Fire of London and in PE we started learning small steps to complete some traditional Welsh dancing. In maths, we practised using our number facts and this will help us next week with missing number problems. We also learnt about the significance of poppies on Remembrance Day. 

In Year 2, we have had a very productive learning week. In English, we enjoyed reading the story, 'Imaginary Fred' and created our own imaginary friends. We then wrote a character description of our new friend. In Maths, we demonstrated our understanding of number and place value, showing that we were able to partition numbers, order numbers and compare numbers. In History, we learnt about Samuel Peyps and the importance of his diary during the Great Fire of London. 

In Science, we learnt about predictions and observations in an experiment. We observed what happened to a peeled orange and an unpeeled orange when put in water. Do you know what would happen? The peeled orange sank and the unpeeled orange floated! This is because the peel contains little pickets of air- which essentially keeps the orange afloat!

In Art, we explored using paint mixed with materials such as glitter, straw and crayons to see what would be effective for our Great Fire of London paintings. We are looking forward to painting these next week.
