Order, order…the Right Honourable Members for Sheen Mount

Last week, Year 6 visited the Houses of Parliament to learn about how democracy works in the United Kingdom.

We were able to watch debates and discussions in both the House of Commons (where the members are elected by their constituents) and the House of Lords (where the members are appointed based on their expertise and experience).  We also learnt about the history of the building and of the many historic events which have taken place within its walls over so many years.  All of the children then took part in a debate in a classroom that looked a little bit like the House of Commons.  We were able to put into practice the debating skills we have been developing at Sheen Mount by sharing in a respectful and informed manner our particular points of view.
