  • Through the tunnel.....

    Published 15/06/23

We have been reading 'The Tunnel' by Anthony Browne. The children made brilliant predictions about what could be at the other end of the tunnel. They then took part in drama activities based on their predictions. After that, the children had the opportunity to show us their creative writing and wrote their own stories about where they ended up. We were amazed and excited to read their wonderful and descriptive stories. Well done Year 2! In maths, we have had so much fun collecting information, making tallies, drawing and interpreting tables, graphs and pictograms. We found out about the children's favourite fruit and animals. Throughout the week, the children have been very enthusiastic about our computer lessons where they have learnt to create their own music using Music Labs. We all had very musical classrooms!

  • Delicious dips!

    Published 25/05/23

Year 2 have had a lovely two weeks! Today we have been busy preparing our dips. We peeled, grated and chopped various ingredients to go in our yoghurt based dip and very much enjoyed tasting them!

In English, we have been exploring some more Anthony Browne books such as 'Gorilla' and 'Willy and Hugh'. We have made predictions and inferences about the characters as well as making links between the books. We thought about what was similar and different in both.

In maths we have been consolidating our problem solving skills. We used RUCSAC to solve word problems and also have thought about other words used for 'add, take away, times and divide'.

In science we are enjoying exploring different habitats. We have thought about underground and under the sea animals and how they are best suited to that habitat.

In history we have experienced what school was like in the Victorian times! Our classrooms were transformed and we had to practise the 3R's - reading, writing and arithmetic. We all decided that we preferred how school is now rather than back then!

We hope you all have a restful half-term!

Year 2 have had a lovely start back to the Summer term!

Doves and Owls have enjoyed Forest school in slightly warmer weather! We learnt how to safely light a spark and made some watercolour paintings and leaf patterns. Robins are looking forward to their sessions starting next week.

In maths we have been exploring fractions of shapes and numbers. We learnt about halves, quarters and thirds.

In English, we have begun reading Zoo by Anthony Browne. We made some inferences about how the animals in the book might be feeling and also written a detailed character description of Dad.

Excitingly in history, we have begun our topic about the Victorians! We made a timeline of events that happened all throughout Queen Victoria’s reign. We also explored a variety of artefacts and discussed what we thought they might be used for.

In science we have been discussing different habitats and which animals are best suited to their habitats.

  • Dancing, beans and colourful cars!

    Published 29/03/23

What a fantastic few weeks we have had in Year 2. In English, we have been writing recounts about our trip on the London Eye. In maths, we have been busy measuring capacity and temperature. In science, we have been learning about the life cycle of a bean and planted our own beans. They have grown amazingly well and now the children will take them home. The children took part in a wonderful creative arts week and created beautiful art work based on the book Tiger Walk. They also took part in a whole year group dance based on a song from the film The Jungle Book. We have continued our creativity this week in DT and Art. In DT, we designed, made and evaluated brilliant vehicles. Everyone was so impressed that their vehicles actually moved! In Art, we have made and painted our Kusama inspired pumpkins. We hope you all now enjoy a well deserved rest.

  • Measures, plants and Forest school!

    Published 15/03/23

Year 2 have had a lovely two weeks since our last newsletter. We have enjoyed starting Forest school, which has involved making bird feeders, spotting birds and playing in the mud kitchen!

In English, we have been reading Mary Poppins. We did some drama and imagined we were jumping into our own chalk drawing and landing in an imaginary land. We then described what we could see and do in these new worlds!

In maths, we finished learning about division and using sharing circles to divide equally. We have also learnt about measurement using centimetres and metres. We have measured objects around our classroom, comparing and ordering them from biggest to smallest.

In science, we have continued our learning about plants and begum thinking about what they need in order to grow well. We have all planted our own bean plant and we are looking forward to watching them grow over the next few weeks.  In geography, we have been comparing London to Mumbai with a particular focus on the human and physical features.  We are all very excited about our trip to the London Eye and can’t wait to see which other landmarks we spot!

Year 2 have had a fantastic beginning to the new half-term.

In Maths, we have started our topic of division. The children have explored sharing circles, number lines as well as linking it to multiplication to solve problems.
