Forest school Fun!
We have been welcomed into the Summer Term with our Forest School sessions, and what a wonderful experience it has been! The children have thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors and making the most of our natural environment. They have been busy creating bubble blowers, crafting beautiful butterflies, and some even chose to make imaginative potions in the mud kitchen. It has been fantastic to see their creativity and enthusiasm flourish while learning outside the classroom.
In Mathematics, we have been learning to tell the time. The children have consolidated their Year 1 knowledge of o’clock and half past and have progressed onto quarter past and quarter to the hour. Using our classroom clocks, they have been developing their confidence in reading and showing different times.
In English, we have been reading Flat Stanley. The children have loved discovering how Stanley became flattened and have enjoyed discussing the story. They have been using expanded noun phrases to describe Stanley’s appearance and personality, helping to develop their descriptive writing skills.
In History, we have been learning about the Victorians and placing key events from the Victorian era in chronological order. The children were fascinated to learn about the lives of Victorian children and were particularly surprised to discover that many children had to work in factories or clean chimneys before laws were introduced to improve children's lives.
In French, the children have been learning greetings and simple conversational phrases. They are beginning to confidently greet one another and take part in short conversations with their friends.
In PSHE, we have been exploring the different types of families that make up our communities. The children have been discussing what makes a family special and have learned that, although families may look different from one another, they are united by the love, care, and support they provide. Through our discussions, the children have developed a greater understanding of respect, belonging, and the importance of positive relationships.
