  • Drama, pumpkins, and Polar Regions of the world

    Published 27/11/25

Year 2 have been incredible at learning their lines for our Christmas Play! We are so proud of them. They have been practising acting out their parts, using stage props and projecting their voices. It will be really exciting to see them perform in the dress rehearsal next week.  On top of this, learning has continued in all subject areas. They have sculpted pumpkins out of playdough, perfecting their pumpkin shapes and honing their sculpting skills. Here are some examples to share, and the final clay sculpture will be coming home in time for Christmas. They have revisited subtraction and practised using their number bonds to take away. We have finished our literacy book "Lost and Found" and written the story using all the grammar we have learnt about – verbs, adverbs, adjectives and subjects! They learnt about the Polar Regions of the world in geography, and we looked at advent, in particular the advent candles and how they are lit in the lead up to Christmas.

  • Our Place in the World

    Published 12/11/25

What a fantastic start to the new half-term!

In Geography, we have been learning all about our place in the world. This week, we revisited our Year 1 learning about the continents and oceans, using atlases to help us label and locate them accurately.

In English, we began our new story, Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. The children have loved retelling the story through acting and sequencing, and have been learning about expanded noun phrases. They then put their skills into practice by creating wonderful missing posters for the penguin!

In Maths, we have continued our work on addition and subtraction, focusing on adding to the next ten and using this strategy to help us add one-digit numbers to two-digit numbers.

In Art, we have been sketching pumpkins, looking carefully at the lines and textures we use. This is great preparation for our upcoming clay sculptures at the end of the unit.

We are also busy rehearsing for our Christmas production — learning lines, acting, and singing with lots of energy and enthusiasm!

We have been so impressed with how Year 2 have come back after half-term with such a positive, can-do attitude. Their enthusiasm and determination have really shone through, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing progress they make this term!

  • Creative collages!

    Published 23/10/25

What a busy half term it has been in Year 2! Over the last couple of weeks, we have been finishing our art unit on collage by adding detail and evaluating (Please see some of our masterpieces in the above picture!).

In English, we have been looking at the Oliver Jeffers story, ‘STUCK’ which is all about a little boy who gets his kite stuck in a tree and ends up throwing up all sorts of items in the tree to knock the first one down, with each item getting more and more unbelievable! This week we had a lot of fun writing our own version of the story with a Halloween theme and have been working really hard to make our sentences more exciting by including a variety of sentence starters, adjectives and verbs.

In maths, we have started a new unit on addition and subtraction by recapping our number bonds to ten, writing ‘fact families’ and thinking about related facts.

In science, we have continued our topic on materials by investigating which materials are absorbent and thinking about the suitability of materials and their purpose.

Finally, we have also been doing A LOT of singing in preparation for our Harvest Assemblies this week. The children have worked really hard to learn the lines to the songs and poems and are really looking forward to performing them to you!

We hope you have a wonderful and restful half term break. The Year 2 team.
