Governor Update

Last week’s Board meeting was a full one focusing on two main areas: our plans for next year and the presentation of several annual reports by governors reviewing progress across a number of key areas.

We agreed our strategic priorities for the next academic year which include: a focus on further developing a whole school love of reading; reviewing the assessment strategy for children’s progress; developing the well-being of pupils and staff; and building on the new Sex, Relationships and Education policy around behaviour and relationship development.

We also discussed and approved the budgets.  With prudent financial management of the many moving parts due to Covid, last year’s budget saw us turn in a surplus despite the loss of significant income from regular sources including rental.  This year we are just about forecasting a breakeven but there remain a few areas requiring careful tracking.

We received reports for a number of critical areas governors review annually: Safeguarding – how we keep the children and staff safe at all times; Pupil Premium - how we spend the additional money the school receives for those eligible children; and Equality and Diversity – looking at our approach in all that we do from how we recruit, to the books we use with the children and role modelling to the academic results and how these break down by various groups eg boys and girls.

I want to thank the governors for their work on these reports.  I especially want to thank Catherine Riley, who after over five years as a governor has stepped down to focus on her new work commitments.  Her challenge, fresh thinking and commitment will be sorely missed.

Finally, we did also discuss progress on the headteacher recruitment and we will be updating the school more widely before the end of term.

Have a great weekend.

Sports Days

As mentioned last week, we are planning for our sports days to be held before the end of term.  If your child is in the EYFS or KS1 please can they wear their PE kit to school on Friday 9th July and for KS2 on Friday 16th July.  We'll take as many pictures as possible and make sure that they are shared with you all.

Sheen Mount FC - champions!

On Sunday Sheen Mount Utd (formally Sheen Mounties) played in the Surrey FA five a side tournament at Meadowbank, along with 15 other teams. They qualified, winning 2 out of 3 initial games and made it on to the quarterfinals then the semi-finals.

Sheen Mount were clearly the underdogs in the semi-final, but they had the crowd behind them, and with grit and determination they won 1-0 against the team that had beaten them in the qualifying round and came top of the league this season. They entered the final with a winning mindset and strong team spirit and managed to score with one minute to go, walking away with the tournament trophy!

Team – Chrissy Carswell, Calli Louis, Mia Norman-Hodges, Sarah Kohn, Tamsin Bryant, Julie Langley

This week we have had a focus on spiders, the children have loved learning all of the different facts about them. They were fascinated when we found out that some spiders do not spin webs. We had great fun making spider catching games and the children made up new rules to make them more challenging...
