Dear parents and carers,
I hope you are well as we enter the midpoint of this half-term. The unseasonally warm weather is very much being enjoyed by the children, although I did pick up over sixty jumpers on a walk around the site after school one day last week! I have informed the children that they had broken the new unofficial world record for abandoned jumpers. If it is named, we will do our best to get it back to your child. If it is not, there is a rather large lost property area by the medical room.
As you can see, there have been some exciting school trips in the last two weeks. Check below for details.
SCHOOL FUND REMINDER
A reminder
Arriving on time - our gates close at 8.55am.
Many thanks for making this a more prompt and straightforward start to the school day for your children. Doors to the classrooms open at 8.45am (our 'soft start') and registers are taken at 8.55am. Your punctuality is very much appreciated.
Individual/sibling photos
Many thanks to all the parent volunteers who gave up their time last Friday to ensure the photos ran smoothly, by collecting children from class and delivering them to the hall for their photos.
Parking on Christchurch Road
A reminder to never park on the zigzag lines during school term time and opening hours please – even to drop off.
If you do choose to drive to school, you should find somewhere to park that does not block any local residents' drives and then walk the rest of the way.
Dentist/non-emergency medical appointments
Please note that these should not be during the school day. Last week there were over 15 dentist appointments during the school day – none of which were an emergency.
International Day
We very much look forward to this event on tomorrow - 2nd October. Our language ambassadors from year 6 are ready to be involved, and each year group has planned different activities.
I look forward to seeing and hearing about some of the activities and learning in next week's celebration assembly.
Writing Competitions
Mrs Clark (English Lead) sent an email about Arts Richmond Young Writer's Competition this week.
If parents/children are interested in another nationwide competition, they can also enter this one themselves https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/500-words/articles/zqc8mbk#z4bvxg8
Trips/School Events
Year 4 visited Kew last week. This was actually their trip from Year 3 that was postponed due to the heatwave. A great time was had by all.
Year 3 Stone Age day – this took place in a rotation of activities in their classrooms this week.
Year 6 Air raid shelter – St Leonard's Shelter. This fantastic local, walkable trip to see a shelter from WW II and be inspired by local volunteers was enjoyed by all the Year 6 children and adults.
Sports
Year 3/4 tag rugby – the mixed team went and played at the Barnes floodlit tag rugby tournament on a Friday night. The team won all 4 games and were the overall winners. Many thanks to parent Ed Nicholson for organising the team on a Friday night.
Girls football friendly – the squad had their first friendly last week. The team were not victorious, but lots of players enjoyed representing the school for the first time and trying out new positions.
Boys football friendly – the squad had their first friendly yesterday. After being level at half-time, tiredness crept in and a physical but talented opposition got the better of us. However, they are looking forward to their next fixture.
Future events – we have 30 boys attending the Hampton Year 5 and Year 6 football tournament on Saturday morning. Then next week we will have 40 children from KS2 representing the school at the Harrodian Cross-Country event.
Staffing
Congratulations to Miss Fosh, class teacher of 4F, who is pregnant and expecting to start her maternity leave in April.
PSA events
Reception Drinks
Our new committee had their first organised event on Thursday evening with the Reception Parents' drinks. Thank you to all those who organised the event, and it was great to see it so well attended.
Large Fundraising event – Project Indoors meeting date
We are nearly ready to launch the cycle/run/walk project. The cycling event has an initial plan and there is a meeting tonight with a sixteen strong group of volunteers for the run or walking element.
We have put in the weekend commencing the 21st May for the ride and Sunday 23rd May for the walk/run.
The organising of the cycle is slightly time-sensitive so we need to start moving things along.
There will be a meeting in the school hall on Tuesday 13th October at 8pm for a presentation/discussion. There will be some sign-ups appearing around the school gates. You do need to sign up before the meeting and if you can not make the meeting, you absolutely can still participate in the events. I am informed that places on the cycle are limited!
