Thursday 25th June 2026

Dear parents and carers,

There were so many events going on last week, it was hard to keep up, but this is when the school is at its finest. In no particular order, the following events took place: Careers Week, PSA Discos, PSA Parent Party, the girls' football team won the Borough League title, KS1 completed the Phonics Test, Y4 completed the Multiplication Tables Check, we had our first 'Stay and Play' for next year's reception, we hosted four headteachers and our improvement partner for a peer review and our Y6 team were moderated by the borough for their writing.

Obviously, with the heat this week, some of our activities have been postponed, but we look forward to them happening in the future. Thank you for your cooperation with letting us know who was to be collected early this week.

Many thanks to all the staff who took the Year 5 children to PGL. It feels very ironic saying this, but it rained all day on the Thursday, and it was pretty cold, so lots of resilience had to be shown by all!

School events

Careers Week

What a fantastic community event that lasted across the week with over 50 different careers shared with the children through assemblies, workshops and the careers fair for Y5/6. Many thanks to all those parents who gave up their time to come and volunteer, and special thanks go to Mrs Sroka for all her organisational skills, not only with the parents but also the timetable for the school.

Year 6 Fundraising Sale

This event was planned to be this Friday, but has been postponed until Friday 3rd July after school. Please support the children with your purchases.

Music Concert

This event is open to all the community and is now on Thursday 2nd July. Those who are taking part have been contacted, but anyone is welcome to attend. It will be held in the school hall from 6.30–7.30pm.

Colet Club at St Paul's-Millie Y5

When I went to Colet Club, I went for 2 and a half hours and did lots of different and fun maths activities, like a maths relay race and a crossword but with numbers. We took part in four relay races, and we would have 8 minutes for each one and when we did the crossword we had half an hour. I really enjoyed it!

Sport

Girls Football

The girls ended their season by winning the Borough League title. They remained unbeaten throughout the competition and played the same school they beat in the final of the borough tournament – St Edmunds. After a tense and tiring 3-3 in normal time, the game went to penalties. After falling behind, the girls scored their remaining penalties and pulled off the saves. The treble is secured – what a season!

Mixed Football

A rather different tournament with 3 girls being on the pitch at all times. The team just about scraped through their pool. In the semi-finals they won 4-0 against a team they had drawn with in the group. They then won the final against a team they lost to in the group stage – great resilience by the team!

Table Tennis

Congratulations to Oscar Todhunter who was the individual runner-up in the Jack Petchey London regional finals. He did tell me he beat the winner in a different event the very next day down in Sussex!

Y6 netball team v parents match – an annual tradition. Words from the netball coaches

It was a solid 12-6 win for our players (and that was a score line which reflected biased umpiring in favour of the parents to give them a chance).

Parent shooting was much to be desired. I think it was an average of 1 in 18 attempted shots went in! Pretty poor considering they nearly reached the post. In comparison, the kids were clinical!

The parents loved getting an insight into the game and the kids loved showing off their skills and thrashing the adults.

Focus Charity this Year: East Africa Children's Project (EACP)

Thank you for your support for this charity this year. It has been incredibly worthwhile working with a small charity that has a direct impact. They have been incredibly grateful for the fundraising we have done with them. Please see the attachments of the letter to children and one to parents.  I have pencilled us in to be involved in another project in two years' time.

Water Fight on the Common

Just a reminder of this non-school informal event on the common which happens on the last day of term. Please remember to take all your rubbish with you and not leave it by the bins even if they are filled. I spent the first day of the holidays dealing with complaints from local residents last year!

Workshop provided by the school

Does your child complain that they don't want to come to school in the morning? Is the morning routine and journey to school a challenge sometimes? Come learn how to build your children's resilience and how to talk to them about their feelings. Our Educational Psychologist, Dr Alicia Crane, is leading this practical session on barriers to learning and attendance, focusing on early signs that children may be worried, angry, or exhausted at school. This online parent workshop is open to parents at Sheen Mount Primary School and Kings Primary School, Kew.

Parents Party

It was great to see so many parents at the event last Friday. A great atmosphere and a well organised event. Many thanks to all those who helped set up or during the event.

Summer Fair Saturday 4th  July 12 - 4pm

We very much look forward to this event and the community and fundraising aspect it brings.

A reminder Friday 3rd July is 'wear your own clothes to school' day for bringing a bottle for the tombola.
