Dear parents and carers,
I hope you are well and had an enjoyable Easter break. It has been great to see the sunshine in the first two weeks and we have hit the ground running this term with many of the events described below, including workshops, residential trips and sports fixtures.
It has been great walking around the school with the videographer over the last few days. The school has looked fantastic; we have been both inside and outside the classrooms, and he has also filmed some exciting drone footage. The final version should be with us by the end of this academic year.
SCHOOL FUND REMINDER
Thank you – parent swimming volunteers
We are acutely aware that swimming could not happen during the school day for the younger children if we did not have parental volunteers. I wanted to thank all of those who help with this. I am very aware it can be very busy and the building is warm, but we are very grateful.
Careers week 15th to 19th June 2026-Mrs Sroka-Enrichment Lead and UKS2 Phase leader
This year we aim to hold a Careers Week in the week beginning 15th June 2026. We would like parent volunteers to talk to classes about their jobs, what they enjoy, the skills required and describe a typical day. The aim is to broaden aspirations and help the children make connections between careers and subjects.
You may recall that our last Careers Week was in 2024 where, thanks to parent volunteers, we were able to organise workshops, assemblies and held a careers fair for UKS2. We would like to do the same again this year.
If you are interested, and can make the time, please complete the form. Once we know how many people are happy to be involved, we can make a plan and will be in touch to confirm the arrangements. We appreciate any time that you are able to offer.

Ambassadors
Geography ambassadors and Earth day – Harry, Wren, Oliver and Toby
We have been busy keeping up with the latest geographical news and have enjoyed learning about a potential ‘eighth’ continent, Zealandia, as well as discovering that some river deltas are sinking faster than sea levels are rising.
As Geography Ambassadors, we are looking forward to helping support other classes during our school’s celebration of Earth Day! This Earth day we will be focusing on the Ocean. Did you know…the ocean produces a huge amount of the oxygen we breathe, mainly from tiny organisms called phytoplankton, so every second breath we take comes from the ocean.
Inspired by David Attenborough’s ocean film, we will be exploring the question: “If the Ocean could speak, what would it ask humans to change?” and each class will be making a pledge of something they can do to help take better care of the ocean and our environment.
We believe that it is important that these promises continue after Earth Day so we will be monitoring our school’s progress with these pledges as small actions, like reducing single-use plastic and keeping our environment clean, can make a big difference to the future of our oceans.
Art competition from the Art ambassadors
The art ambassadors would like to announce that Sheen Mount is having a cartoon competition.
It is open to all ages, and it can be a cartoon character or cartoon strip. The entries will be judged by the art ambassadors, but taking part is more important than winning. All entries will be displayed. The deadline date for entries is 15th May. Entries must be named and have the child's class on them, and they are to be given to the office.
We hope you enjoy creating your piece of art.
Athea, Pia, Lisha, Jack, Ozgur and Rufus.
School events
Trips
The first residential trip of the year occurred last week and Year 4 visited Juniper Hall near Dorking, for their 3 day/2 night residential trip. There is more information in the Year 4 section below. Thank you to all the staff who gave up their time for this wonderful opportunity.
Year 5 had a fantastic interactive Viking workshop day yesterday. We also enjoyed their class assembly on Macbeth this morning.
All of Year 6 have now completed their Bikeability course run by the council.
Our final Year 2 class visited Holly Lodge on the first day of term with a focus on Victorians and role-playing in their classroom.
Sports
League knock out matches
Our four league teams have been battling out their knock-out matches. The girls' football came through a tight home quarter-final 5-3. Unfortunately, our Tag Rugby team lost in a very tense match by 1 point. The boys' football team unfortunately came unstuck in a tough quarter-final. The netball team are already through to their finals evening next week.
Girls football- premier league stadium
Following their qualification through three tournaments, the girls' team have been rewarded with a fantastic opportunity to play in a national tournament against other primary school teams representing Premier League teams. We will be representing Brentford at Wolverhampton Wanderers on the last day before half-term.
Netball
A friendly match was played last Wednesday against Thomson House. The team came out victorious 10-6.
We also played two matches on Monday 23rd – winning 6-3 for the Y6s and 9-5 for the Y5s.
Lots of these matches involved members of the wider squad and not the players from the league games.

Staff charity challenges
This is a reminder of Miss Dodsworth's and Mrs O'Brien's charity challenges, and we have added in Miss Fosh's which takes place in a few weeks' time. Good luck to them all!
Two of our staff are taking on challenges in the coming months, should you wish to sponsor them.
Miss Dodsworth (Year 2 teacher) is taking on the London marathon for the charity Mind-her motivation behind the challenge is on her charity page.

Mrs O'Brien is taking on a walking half-marathon. Her words are below
https://www.justgiving.com/page/maria-obrien-3
On Saturday 9th May, I am walking a half-marathon with my sister in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. Like so many people I know, Alzheimer’s is affecting our family as our dear dad has been diagnosed, and we are gradually seeing a decline in his memory and executive functioning. Whilst there is little we can do to change this, we can certainly support the work that the Alzheimer’s Society is doing to support families and contribute to the excellent research being undertaken by dozens of dementia research projects, many of which are based in the UK. Anything you can donate to support this work would be very much appreciated.
Miss Fosh is running a 10k 'race for life' for Cancer research for a family member. It is mentioned on her charity page- https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/emmas-race-for-life-32746570173755226211
