Thursday 11th December 2025

Dear parents and carers

We arrive at the last newsletter of the term.

Having enjoyed the two excellent Year 2 performances and the wonderful reception singing already this week, we look forward to Year 1 singing tomorrow morning, followed by our carol concerts next Wednesday at Christ Church; from LKS2 at 2pm and UKS2 at 7.15pm.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and I hope you enjoy the holiday period with friends and family. A reminder we finish at 2pm (R/KS1) and 2.10pm (KS2) on Friday 19th December and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 5th January.

Children's illness

Whilst we want the children to be in school as much as possible, we have had a couple of incidents this week with children being sick/ having a high temperature at home and then being sent to school. Please consider the staff and other children when making these decisions. A reminder that there is a 48-hour policy around children being sick and being away from school.

Additionally, you will no doubt be aware of rising flu cases; please consider this particularly in the last week of the term.

Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas donations

A reminder that the Christmas Charity Jumper Day is on Thursday 18th December and this is the same day as the school Christmas lunch. We ask for £1 minimum donation per child for Christmas Jumper Day.

Whilst there will be a collection in the church at the KS2 carol services for the church and this charity, there is also the option for R/KS1 parents to donate in this way.

The charity this year is 'The East Africa Children's Project'-  https://www.eacpcharity.com/  and the donation page is here-https://www.justgiving.com/page/sheen-mount-primary-school-25?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL

We are aiming to support them in two specific projects. As mentioned previously, these are:

Bukamba New school kitchen building. Construct ventilated new school kitchen 9,000,000 (£1,972)

Bukamba School kitchen stoves. Construct new school traditional kitchen stoves 8,500,000 (£1,862)

Christmas Fair

The rain stayed away and a plethora of activities were enjoyed, whilst also raising crucial funds for the school. At the moment, the total raised is around £14k.

Many thanks to all those who gave up their time to volunteer at the fair, whether that was organisation before hand, setting up, running stalls or helping with the tidy up.

A particular thanks to two groups. Firstly, all those who helped set up and run the grotto from Year 1. It is a significant highlight of the fair and takes a great deal of time and effort before and during the day.

Secondly, all those on the PSA committee. They organise, liaise, plan and then deliver the fair itself – many, many thanks.

PSA funding

We will formalise this in a document when all of the new resources arrive, but here is the computing curriculum impact of the iPads bought through fundraising from last academic year.

Mrs Wrigglesworth Computing Lead

Children have been enjoying getting hands-on with our brand-new iPads, purchased thanks to the generosity of our parent community. Year 3 have brought their imaginations to life through stop-motion animation, while Year 5 have been experimenting with video production—exploring a range of filming techniques for different effects and using storyboards to plan a sequence of footage. The iPads are helping to bolster creativity within our computing curriculum and enabling us to engage pupils in exciting new and meaningful ways.

New Phone Entry System for JAG and Timings

Please note the email sent today around JAG timings and pick up/drop off.

Ambassadors-Music

Paula, Kit, Emilia, Kingsley and Lyla

We are the music ambassadors because we are passionate about music. We all play instruments and are part of the school orchestra and some of us are also in UKS2 choir.

As music ambassadors, we have visited all the KS2 classes to find out who would like to play in Celebration assembly each week. Every week we let the children know who is playing and then tell Mrs Boa.  We are going to the Sheen Lane Centre on Friday to play Christmas Carols to members of the local community. During this half-term we have all been particularly busy rehearsing for the KS2 Carol Concerts and last half-term we all played in orchestra in the Harvest Assemblies. We learn an instrument so that we can perform and share our music with others and hope that they will also be inspired to learn to play.

Golden Rules

We have combined and streamlined our golden rules/behaviour foci for the children. We were aware that our 'behaviour foci' were all based around respect and, therefore, we could condense them to this word. Whilst also reviewing the language from the previous 'golden rules' and combining everything into a more concise document.

Gift bags for Richmond Good Neighbours

Thank you for your engagement in this very worthwhile project-we had nearly 50 gift bags.  Please see a message from Anne Speak. If you wish to make contact, the email address is-organiser@richmondgoodneighbours.org.uk

What an amazing number of gift bags!

Please convey our thanks to all the parents and children who wrote cards and  donated items to be delivered to our clients this Christmas.

Their generosity is really appreciated and will make such a difference to our clients, many of whom will be on their own this Christmas.

If any parents feel that they might have time to volunteer for RGN as shopper or volunteer drivers I would live to hear from them in 2026.

School events

Choir

In addition to the performances in school, our choirs have been very busy , rehearsing, performing and sharing their Christmas music with the local community.

On Thursday evening, the LKS2 and UKS2 choirs, led by Mrs Boa and Mrs Adams, accompanied by Sally Rowley on piano, performed in the Holly Lodge Concert at Christ Church. They performed with the Clarendon School Choir and the Sheen Gate choir as well as performing as a choir.  On Monday, they were in excellent voice again as they sang at the Lawn tennis Association.  They were all fantastic, singing with joy, focus, and musicality. We were so proud of them all. Tomorrow, some members of Year 2 and our music ambassadors will join members of the Sheen Lane Day Centre and share their Christmas music with them.

Sport

Y3 football event and netball team

Two fantastic opportunities came about to play a friendly tournament at Harrodian school.

They enjoyed playing some competitive matches for the first time. Many thanks to our netball coaches for taking them.

Y3 Richmond/Ham tournament

A different group of boys went to a 5-a-side tournament. Despite the pouring rain,  they played three group games – winning all three and then progressed to the semi-finals, where they won on penalties. The final was a more comfortable game and the team came home with the silverware.

Y5/6 girls football team

Two more victories for the girls football team in the league matches. Having won the borough title, Mr Brown has been rotating the team and now 20 girls have represented the school in this team this academic year. They won 7-3 against Marshgate and

Y6 Netball team

You will be aware how well our netball team have been doing. Well, they went and beat Christ's U12 A team this week. They had to adapt to 7 a side (usually they play 5) and taller posts. However, they still came out victorious 13-8!

New Year Fitness Event-from a parent organiser

Sheen Mount Primary School Community Event - Starting 2026 off with some fun!

To kick 2026 off in a healthy way, the school is hosting a community event on Saturday, 17 January from 4 to 6 pm to promote an active lifestyle and engagement within the local community.

Mr Brown will be hosting activities for kids whilst adults can participate in an indoor cycling activity in a party environment. Our local DJ will be pumping out tunes whilst parents can participate in a short, virtual “race” against the clock.

More details will be published on Classlist in the near future and we encourage all families to support this initiative.
