Dear parents and carers,
I hope you are well. Various parent presentations have taken place in the past two weeks with one more to follow next Wednesday. Tournaments, school trips, workshops at school have all begun and with the glorious sunshine, the school feels very much alive.
Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Maps/Curriculum Bulletins
We have now concluded our 'meet the teacher' meetings and the curriculum bulletins have been sent out. The curriculum maps are all on the website under individual subject headings. They are working documents so they are updated throughout the year.
Parents Presentations
It was great to see so many parents engaged in the last two online presentations. Firstly the PSA AGM and then the secondary school presentation last night.
Attached to the email are the slides from the secondary school presentation.
I announced at the PSA AGM that we have a provisional date for the playground re-development to happen in mid-October and then the re-surfacing of the cage to occur once the playground project has been completed.
I look forward to seeing parents at the 'Headteacher Presentation' on Wednesday 1st October, with the link emailed yesterday.
Reminders please
- Children can not play on school playground equipment before and after school because our insurance does not cover this.
- School shoes must be all black; trainers are allowed, but they must be all black with no white on towards the sole.
- Hoodies can only be worn on PE days. They are not part of the uniform on other days.
Fundraising from Last Year – Holly Lodge Donation
I had the privilege of visiting Holly Lodge this week to have a tour and confirm
the handover of our fundraising from the cycle in the summer term. We had committed 20% going to a local charity and Holly Lodge was chosen. We have donated £12, 531.16 to them, which they principally intend to use to develop their outside areas. Around half of their work is with local schools and the other half with local groups, with a particular focus on SEN. I will update you with news of completed projects from the funding and I also look forward to the school making use of their curriculum workshops, which are walking distance away.
Thank you to Adam Jones, co-organiser of the Sheen Mount Cycle and Kath Hauge, co-chair of the PSA (who was taking the photo!) for joining me.
School events
Hampton Football Tournament
I joined Mr Brown and twenty-five children (from Y5 & Y6) last Saturday lunchtime, at the Hampton School Tournament. We had 4 teams and all played 7 matches across 2 hours, also contending with a whole range of weather conditions. All of our teams won and lost some of their matches. Congratulations to one of the Year 5 teams who secured second place in their group and received medals. Many thanks to all the parents who came along to provide support, particularly those who helped manage a team, without whom we would not have been able to enter as many teams as we did.

Year 2 Fun with Numbers Mathematics Competition from our Enrichment lead - Mrs Sroka
Last week a team of children attended a Year 2 'Fun with Numbers' Mathematics Competition at Hampton Prep School. They completed four rounds including missing box calculations, guess my number and problem-solving involving monkeys and building towers. They competed against nine other schools in the area. This is the first time we have attended this event and are very proud to announce that our team came 1st and were awarded certificates and trophies. I was very impressed with how well they collaborated and cooperated with each other, as well as their resilience when faced with some tricky maths problems.
Well done Thomas, Xavi, Leya and Emily!
School Trips and Visits
Year 3 Stone Age day
An event in school with three different workshops -here are some children's thoughts on the day:
"When we were pretending to hunt with our spearheads, that was the best." (Henry 3P)
"I loved the timeline she made, it was colourful and had lots of information." (Ottilie 3MN)
"I enjoyed using charcoal on the cave walls, it felt like we were really in our own Stone Age cave." (Una 3W)
Year 6 had a fantastic local trip to see the St Leonard's Court World War II air raid shelter – you can read more below.
Cauliflower Christmas cards
A reminder that this fundraising activity is now made at home and an email was sent home via the PSA organisers of this event. The deadline is Tuesday 8th October to give to the class teacher.
