Dear parents and carers,
Following the parents forum and online school fund meeting recently, the feedback is clear that we should advertise the school fund more-it will therefore be a regular item at the top of the newsletter.
In what has been a very short half-term, this is the last newsletter. It has been a busy time in school with our Year 6s working hard to achieve their very best during the SATs assessments this week. We finish at the usual time on Friday 23rd May and welcome the children back on Tuesday 3rd June. Monday 2nd June is an INSET day.
Some exciting curriculum events have started this week with Y4 having their wider opportunities-with all children learning the clarinet and Y3 starting their weekly visit to Sheen common and tennis lessons.
You may have noticed a man with an AfC lanyard standing at the gate with me last Friday; it was Tom Gibson, our School Improvement Partner. He visits us once a term and this is the first time he has come on a Friday. He joined Key Stage 2 for their celebration assembly and met a range of adults and children. He then produces a report for the governors and feeds back to senior leaders.
School Food-Accent Catering
The school council and I met with Besnik (the operations manager for Accent) this week, enjoying the outdoor classroom as our setting. The school council have previously given feedback about the current food and this was more about the future.
Themed days - on the last Thursday of every half-term, we have a theme day and have been celebrating the many different languages that are spoken at the school. Polish and French days are coming up next half-term.
Accent is planning the following events from September:
- Back British farming - 11th September
- A trip to the circus - 2nd October
- Bonfire Night - 5th November
- Xmas takeover - December
Future items on the menu - ideas were taken around this to shape the future menus.
Opportunities to be involved in cooking during the school day and the 'no peel policy' were also discussed, connected to wastage and looking after the environment. A google form for parents to fill in around numbers for jacket potatoes and vegetarian choices was also sent this week.
Reception Numbers
We are pleased to have a very healthy waiting list for reception places for September 2025. The office spent much of Tuesday fielding phone calls with potential parents asking for their place on the wait list, whilst not all schools in the area will be full to their capacity as they battle a falling birth rate and other factors.
Outdoor Classroom
Bench seating has now been added to the painted and washed block seating. Thank you again to those parents who gave up their time on the tidy-up day (and since) and particularly Charlie Nelson, Toby Jones and Mads Hauge for their assistance with this specific item.
New Representative Sports Kit
Our new kits are ready to go. Many thanks to all our sponsors (James Anderson, Swimway, The Luxury Travel Club and Sheen Sports) for their sponsorship which not only paid for the kit, but brought income into the school. You will be able to buy replica kits from Sheen Sports and news of this will follow shortly. Many thanks to Tej Patel, one of our parent governors, who spent a lot of time liaising with the sponsors.

School Events
The first residential trip of the academic year took place two weeks ago. In glorious sunshine. Our Year 4s spent 3 days enjoying a range of outdoor activities at Juniper Hall at the base of Box Hill - from fire making to making overnight mammal traps. Many thanks to all the staff who gave up their time to make this trip possible and to ensure the children had such a wonderful experience.
Our Year 6 children go off on their Marchants Hill PGL trip (Hindhead) next week, which is particularly good timing for them in the week after their SATs tests.
Our Year 5 children go to the Isle of Wight the w/c 9th June.
Sports
Tag rugby
The team's fantastic season came to an end last Wednesday at the semi-final stage of the league event. An agonising one-try loss meant our competition was over. Well done to all the team for a fantastic season in this mixed-gender event. Thank you to all the parents who supported the team after school at Richmond rugby club.

Ambassadors-Geography
This week we'd like to introduce the geography ambassadors. They are William F, Harrison, William P and Arlo. Last term, the boys researched all about the work that the charity WWF does for environmental conservation. The boys then used their research to prepare presentations for the KS1 and LK2 assemblies. Well done boys for demonstrating such fantastic initiative and oracy!
Pupil News
Congratulations to Alexandra Kaoullas Y6 (aspire grade trio), Darcy Molloy Y6 (level 3 trio) and Bea Louis Y4 (level 4 pair) who all became national champions last weekend -representing London at the National Acro Gymnastics competition in Stoke-on-Trent. Their Richmond club did amazingly well and London also won the overall team award.

Have a good weekend and half-term, when it arrives at the end of next week.
