Dear Parents,
It was lovely to welcome over 400 parents into the school for the open morning today. Despite the rain, we hope you enjoyed seeing the school in action and the tours from our Y6 children. Followed by then spending some time in the classrooms. A copy of the presentation will be sent out to parents for anyone who was unable to make the meeting. We have enjoyed having parents in for the year group/class assemblies as well.
Please note Friday 27th May is an INSET day. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 6th June.
Platinum Jubilee celebrations
On Thursday 26th May the school is going to celebrate the Queen's platinum jubilee.
-It will be a dress up day with a broad range of ideas to choose from. It could just be one item with their own clothes. Children can dress up as if going for Tea at Buckingham Palace and/or dress through the ages from the 50's, 60's, 70's 80's and 90's. One rather astute Y6 boy asked me if he could dress from the 2010's and I pointed out this would mean him just wearing his own clothes!
-Children should bring a sandwich and a cake in for a class/year group picnic in the afternoon. The school (funded the PSA) will provide some squash. Please note arrangements for lunch will be the same on this day.
-The children will enjoy a range of activities in their classes/year group connected to the platinum jubilee.
School events this week
You can find pictures of these events on the twitter feed and some are described in the year group pieces below. This is a new section where we will inform you of some activities going on in year groups other than your own.
-Y3 had their Ancient Egyptian workshop day in school-thank you to all the parent volunteers.
-We had Moles and Otters class assemblies.
-The Y4's are continuing to have whole class lessons in the clarinet this term as part of the wider opportunities' music programme.
-There was a mixed 5 a side football team for Y5/6 children.
-Y5/6 choir visited East Sheen Primary for a Richmond Music trust event.
-Y3 continued their curriculum time tennis lessons at Sheen Common.
-News editors met with myself to further their planning and ideas for the upcoming edition of the new school newspaper they are producing with Mrs O'Brien.
Parking
We still have a substantial issue with parking at drop off and pick up, particularly in the mornings. Parents are blocking local residents drives when dropping off and even in some instances using the zigzag lines right outside the brown gate.
When there is considerable parking in very short distance from the school, I find it disappointing a small group of parents is continuing to do this. Despite my requests, those parents are not changing their actions; therefore please don't be surprised when the school Eco-warriors give you a leaflet when you are parked in the wrong place or your number plate is passed onto me by local residents and this is raised with you.
Ultimately, parking/lingering right next to the school is poor for the school and the children's air quality.
Class/year group assembly mobile phone request
We have had three year group/class assemblies and the no filming request has worked very well-thank you for your cooperation.
We have invested in a tripod for filming each one and the teachers will post the film up on Google Classroom. A reminder there will be an opportunity to take a group photo at the end, plus in the class assemblies you will get a couple of minutes with your child once the assembly is finished.
NEW GOVERNOR WANTED WITH HR EXPERIENCE
The Sheen Mount Board is on the lookout for a new governor with HR skills and experience. Having undertaken a skills audit recently of the Board's existing knowledge and experience, this is an area which we would like to strengthen. If there are any parent HR directors who may either be interested themselves or willing to tap into their networks to help us find a candidate, please do get in touch at governors@sheenmount.richmond.sch.uk

PSA Corner
A quick message from the PSA this week… a new half-term activity / fundraiser from year 6, the PSA needs you, and a reminder of our upcoming events.
Smarties for Smart Jobs Challenge: Leo, Ethan and Johnny from year 6H have set the whole school a challenge to raise money for the school! The idea is that you (sorry parents!) buy a tube of Smarties for 50p from school gates (Tues and Wed next week after pick up). The kids are then tasked with replacing the smarties in the tube with 20ps by doing Smart Jobs to help their families over half-term e.g. tidying their rooms, plates in the dishwasher, making their beds etc. After half-term, the children return their full tubes and Leo, Ethan and Johnny will count up how much money everyone has raised collectively for our school and share the news with you all.
Your PSA Needs You! - we continue to appeal for new joiners to the PSA Committee ahead of the 2022/23 school year. We have a great team of enthusiastic parents on the PSA and would love to welcome some new faces! Please get in touch if you are interested and have questions about the committee and the roles with which we need help.
Upcoming Events
Plant Pledge, June – following the successful garden and school grounds clean-up in March, we need to replant the main bed in the entrance courtyard. Please keep an eye on Classlist following the half-term break, but we will be looking for plant sponsorship to raise funds to complete the job.
Fun Run, 18 June– back due to popular demand! We will have a fun run on the morning of 18 June. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
Summer Fair, 2 July – planning is well underway, in particular for the Mid-Summer’s Grotto! Further detail to be communicated shortly via the class reps.
100 Club
To be the next £100 winner, email sm100club@gmail.com to sign-up ahead of the June drawing. We have a number of people who have signed up, but have not completed the forms, so we will be in touch again shortly. The more the merrier… you’ve got to be in it, to win it!!!
