Dear Parents,
It has been an excellent end to term this week with a wide range of events. We have enjoyed four singing concerts across the last week, with the culmination yesterday of Y3/4 singing beautifully about how spring had sprung and the days were getting warmer; ironically it was snowing at the time!
Amongst other events in the last week have been the Y4 Roman day, parents looking at children's books and KS2 cross-country.
I would like to thank all the staff for their hard work this term. As we enjoy more of the 'normal' primary school activities without restrictions, the more everyone's enjoyment and re-engagement increases in school life.
I hope you have an enjoyable Easter holiday, we look forward to the summer term.
A reminder that Tuesday 19th April is an INSET day. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 20th April.
Pupil voice
To update you on how we facilitate this; Mrs Teeling meets the school council every two weeks and I will initially go to every other meeting. I attended one this week and the children have given me a double page of questions to respond to. Fortunately some of their requests were already actioned - such as more library time and more computing (PSA providing 30 more Chromebooks).
Amongst the actions for me were more equipment outside, replacing goals and basketball posts and more whole school events.
Governors

Celebration assembly-music
We have enjoyed children playing music in celebration assembly as the classes enter and leave assembly. So far this term the following instruments have been played: piano, recorder, flute, french horn and glockenspiel, which is a wide array of instruments and is a great experience for the players. KS2 children should inform Mrs Boa (5B teacher) if they wish to play.
Staffing
Congratulations to Mrs Bakrania-Ashton who is pregnant. We anticipate her maternity leave starting in September 2022. Congratulations to her and her husband.
Parental events
You will see from the separate attachment a range of events.
R, Y1 and Y2 will be having class assemblies whilst KS2 will perform year group.
Parents are welcome to contribute to the 'parents forum' event, via their class rep.
The format for the Y6 leavers events will be decided as soon as we can.

PE at school
Thank you for the positive feedback on the KS2 Cross-Country. It was a lovely community event that children of all abilities enjoyed. The school council is hard at work considering other events as they enjoyed it.
We look forward to a range of new sports opportunities for the children during the school day this includes cricket (with an ex professional coach), lacrosse and cricket. For the moment most of this will be focused on KS2 with expansion to KS1 coming in the future.
Sports report
Well done to the netball team for their determination and resilience over the last two weeks. They have had minimal preparation time with their new coach, but have shown excellent team work and spirit.
On Wednesday 30th March, Year 5 and 6 children from Sheen Mount played Barnes Primary School in a netball match. After an incredibly tense start, we were only down a couple of points and there was still a chance of a comeback. Multiple times we nearly scored but in the end we did not enjoy the success that we had hoped for.
Even though we didn't win, our team has improved immensely. We have had to overcome some difficulties: our team has only played together four times and every time the players in the team have changed so we are getting used to playing together as a team. We have made tremendous progress since our last match against St Osmond's and narrowed the points gap between us and the opposition.
We enjoyed having the chance to work together as a team again and be out in the sunshine supported by parents and teachers.

Year 4 tournament
We went in a grey minivan (which was luxurious) and went to Rocks Lane-Barnes. We started our first match against Barnes and played on astroturf. All our players played really well but special mention for James for his striking and everyone has their own strengths on the team. We won 2, drew 3 and lost 2 matches in the tournament, but had a great time.

Where does the time go? Another term gone and another message of thanks from the Sheen Mount PSA. We’ve had a great slate of events and fundraising this term, so thank you to all who have donated generously their time, energy and money. We only have a few brief messages this week, but primarily wanted to say thank you and wish everyone a lovely break. See you after Easter!

The bags of Easter eggs sold out this morning… thanks to Tamsin Bryant for organising and to all the Year 1 reps who pitched into help in with preparation and the selling of the eggs!
Good luck to all those hunting over the term break.
