Covid19 Guidance
You will have seen the planned changes to the current Covid19 guidance from Monday 19th July. We have discussed the changes in school and have agreed that we will maintain our current model and systems for the last week of term. Given that we are fully set up for the current system and have already introduced the recent tweaks to the drop-off (which are still going well and getting a positive response from families). We feel that any benefits to the children will be minimal and that our desire to ensure that everyone can have a start to the summer break that is free from isolation or illness override them.
External Review
This week, the school engaged in an external review by the local authority to support the school with a future inspection that could take place from September. Ofsted have expressed a desire to inspect all outstanding schools that have not had a review in the last five years. As the last Sheen Mount Ofsted inspection was in 2007 you might imagine we could be close to the top of the list! The inspection framework has changed greatly over the last 14 years and the criteria for each grade have changed enormously. You may have been aware of the review from your children and some of you met with the review team in the playground at drop-off on Monday. We haven’t received the report yet but we were all incredibly proud of how well the children conducted themselves and spoke so confidently and excitedly about their learning in the range of subjects monitored. There will undoubtedly be things that we can improve upon which we will feed into our development plan objectives for the coming year.
Year 6 Leavers' Festival
Calling all Year 6 parents - a very big thank you to everyone who has bought tickets already - it looks like we’ll have a great crowd - and if you haven’t got one but would like to, they’re still on sale today - please check your class WhatsApp for the link.
Richmond Music Trust
Would your child like to play a new instrument or perfect their existing skills? The Richmond Music Trust has a new website where you can book for individual and/or small group lessons. Please note that all classes take place during lesson time : https://www.richmondmusictrust.org.uk/site/tuition/learn-with-us/apply-now/
Respect for our neighbours
Please can I put out an end of term plea for parents to ensure that we are all being as respectful as possible to all of our wonderful neighbours. This includes ensuring that if you do have to drive to school that you park in a designated space and not over someone's drive - this includes just stopping to drop someone off! The raised crossing and the yellow zig-zag lines should be kept clear at all times. We have also received notification of some children causing damage to private gardens and climbing on people’s walls. Our reputation in the local community is very important to us and everything that you can do to keep relationships harmonious would be very much appreciated.
Walton Firs
Following 6AD’s trip to Walton Firs in Cobham last week, it was the turn of 6K and 6S to visit this wonderful activity centre on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather was kinder than expected and the children enjoyed archery, buggy building, adventure course, frisbee golf, nightline and high ropes amongst other activities. Great fun was had by all and some muddy and weary children returned to Sheen Mount at 7pm both evenings. What a find, we will definitely be using this activity centre in the future.
Reception and KS1 Sports Day
All the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in a magnificent sports day this morning. They worked in their Colour Teams within their class bubbles to compete in throwing, sprinting and long distance races. They were very enthusiastic participants and encouraged each other brilliantly. The event had a great atmosphere - thanks to Mr Lancaster for organising this activity for us all.
Mr Lancaster
Some positive news for Mr Lancaster this week but sad news for Sheen Mount. You might be aware that when he is not working at the school, Mr Lancaster is the coach for Watford Ladies Football Club - they have just been promoted to the next tier of the league. This means that he has been asked to coach them full-time and he is therefore leaving us at the end of term. Mr Lancaster has made an enormous contribution to the quality of sport across the school and he will be missed by everyone. The school will be advertising for a replacement sports coach so if you know anyone who might be interested, please push them in our direction.
