Morning queue success

We have had pretty much unanimous positive feedback from the adjustment to the morning routine.  Thank you for your support with this.  For it to continue to work, we will need to keep to the scheduled stagger - there has been some slight creep during the week which has created a few congested areas but on the whole it seems to have worked well.  We will continue with this system until further notice.

Everyone’s Invited
Many of you will be aware, from media reports, of the website ‘Everyone’s Invited’, set up for people to share anonymous testimonies relating to sexual harassment and sexual violence, and the subsequent review that Ofsted recently completed into sexual abuse in schools. We are writing to all parents to update you on the work that the school has been doing this year in relation to this area as you might be understandably concerned from watching or reading some of these reports.

Although the Ofsted Review has made for sobering reading for everyone involved in education, we are encouraged that we have already made progress in many of the areas set out for school and college leaders in their review. We are by no means complacent, however, and recognise that there is always more that schools can do to ensure the safety of our pupils in and out of school.

This year we have:

  • Launched our new RSHE policy with linkages to our PSHE curriculum.  A further development will be a focus on relationships education that is planned as part of our objectives for the next academic year.
  • Staff professional development on the issues around ‘Everyone’s Invited’ and categories of Harmful Sexual Behaviour.
  • Improved our record keeping around behaviour and safeguarding with online monitoring
  • Conducted a review of the Behaviour Policy to ensure that inappropriate behaviour in this area is not tolerated
  • Provided training for a peer supervision model for our Designated Safeguarding Lead

If you have any questions or concerns about this, please make contact with me and we can arrange for a further discussion.

Feedback Please

The school and the Governors would appreciate a few minutes of your time to complete a short survey to provide us with valuable feedback to support our development.  The link to the survey is here. The children and staff will also be surveyed to develop as much data as possible.  Thank you in advance for your support with this.  The survey will close at midday on Monday 5th July so don't delay!

Welcome back on Monday to 6S
We have all been missing 6S, Mrs Sroka, Mrs Henehan and Mrs O’Brien during their period of isolation and are very much looking forward to seeing them all back in school on Monday.  I would like to thank them for their excellent engagement with the remote learning and for following the guidelines to help us all keep safe.  Enjoy your first day of freedom on Sunday!  It would be amazing if this was the last bubble that we had to close - please keep vigilant and aware of the latest Covid-19 guidance.

Farm Visit - School Food Matters
As part of the School Food Matters programme ‘Schools to Market’, a group of KS2 children had the opportunity to visit a farm to pick strawberries and rhubarb. These ingredients will be made into chutney to sell at Whole Foods in Richmond.

Year 3 non-sleepover
Next Friday we look forward to welcoming our Year 3 children back into school for the evening - sadly we are not able to sleep-over but hope to be able to create some of the fun with an opportunity for a camp-fire, sing-along, night-walk and games and activities when we have the whole school site to ourselves!

Sports Days
We have dates in the diary for our Sports Day sessions over the next few weeks. We were hoping that restrictions would have been lifted enough for us to allow parents to attend.  This would only be possible in groups of 30 which would not be feasible for us to manage.  So, the Sports Days will go ahead with the class bubble structure intact and the children will be cheering themselves and their own Colour Teams on! We will take lots of photos and videos which we will share with you all to enjoy the sporting action and fun.

Bees
We have been looking at bumblebees and honey bees this week and have learnt some of the differences between them. The children made a class hive and made their own bees with their faces on.  They also wrote some facts about bees and chose whether to make a butterfly, ladybird, snail or bee.
