Dear parents and carers,
We reach the end of the academic year with a finish of 2pm (R/KS1) on Tuesday 22nd July and 2.10pm (KS2).
We enjoyed our first year 6 performance last night and the second tonight, followed by their leavers assembly on Friday.
We wish our year 6s all the best and look forward to hearing and seeing about their progress over the coming years. I have seen over thirty previous Sheen Mount pupils over the past two weeks-either helping in school on work experience, sports day, popping in to say goodbye to staff they know are leaving. Once again, this is what makes a community.
We thank you for all your support during the year. We continue to do the very best we can for your children, but acknowledge you can always progress and develop. I know this is the attitude of the staff and I have witnessed this in our pupil progress meetings over the last two weeks and as we set our priorities for next academic year.
I would also like to thank the staff for all their hard work this year. Schools are always busy places, but I know everyone's focus is on the children and their teaching and learning and developing the whole child.
New school year
A reminder we welcome the children back on Wednesday 3rd September as we have two INSET days from Monday 1st September.
Assembly and parent engagement events
Please see attached.
Please note that when we have two year groups singing at the same time, e.g. at the Harvest assembly, we have now split this into two dates. The hall is just too busy to meet our fire regulations and the viewing experience will now be enhanced for parents.
Please also note, as previously stated, all parents evening will move to be in person over two nights. We have had numerous issues with parents being in the wrong place, the wrong links being shared and issues with technology. We appreciate some parents would have liked to continue online, but it has (slightly ironically) proved not to be time efficient. On both nights, the last appointments will be at 6.50pm and we have provided you with the dates in advance.
Staffing news
Congratulations to Miss Bolton on her marriage to Ollie last Saturday. Many thanks to parents from her class who gave her a little party at school last Thursday. She will be known as Mrs Howard from September.
Birthday books
A reminder that children can bring in a book for their class when it is their birthday and give it to their class teacher. They have stickers to put in the book and to give to the child. The book can move up with the class if appropriate at the end of the academic year.
School events
Y3 takeover
Year 3 had their 'take over' evening at school last Friday for a couple of hours from 6pm. They enjoyed orienteering, eating their sandwiches they made earlier in the day in DT, using the astroturf and then getting into pyjamas and brushing their teeth, before a story and going home. Many thanks to the Y3 team for putting this on after a very hot working day.
Reception trip to Nower Wood
All reception children enjoyed a coach trip to Nower Wood on Monday to focus on invertebrates.
Quiz club finals at Oxford University by Frank 6AD
On Friday 4th July we went to Oxford University’s Examination Room to compete in the Quiz Club National Final. We had Team 1 (George, William, Hugh, Elijah) and Team 2 (Frank, Celina, Freddie, Antonia). Team 1 overall came 16th out of 34 and Team 2 came 25th overall out of 34. We used a keypad to submit the answers and you could see your score on the big screen at the front at the end of each round. There were 6 rounds and 5 questions in each round. We all really enjoyed it and it was a great experience. I was really excited when I entered the room and the atmosphere was amazing.
Girls football team vs Y7 girls football team
Thank you to Mr Brown for arranging the first fixture of this kind. A group of girls from last year's team came back to play this year's team. The older age group won the game, but it was played in a great spirit.
Eat the Rainbow workshop
Y3 and KS1 enjoyed their healthy eating workshop provided by our caterers last week. The older year groups had already had theirs a few months ago.
Sports Day
Please see below for our results.
We feel we have landed on a successful format, having run it like this for the last two years.
There were comments about the weather and using gazebos. It was still hot a few weeks ago, whilst next week could be cooler, so it is very difficult to judge. It suits our calendar for this time of year, especially due to residential trips. We move the children around so much and the space is vast that gazebos would not provide the solution.
We have decided next year that reception will have a separate sports day on the astroturf at school before transitioning to KS1 sports day on the common in year 1.
