Welcome to Year 6 2020
Mrs Adams and Mrs D'Urso
Mr Lancaster, Ms Maile and Mrs O'Brien
Mrs Scott and Mrs Davies
The Year 6 children are all happy and excited to be back at school and have quickly settled into our new routines.
In English, we have started our new text 'Holes' and have already written a letter in role as one of the characters from the story.
Our topic in Science this term is 'Living Things, Inheritance and Evolution'. The children have begun to find out about the five kingdoms of life and plant evolution. We will go on to learn about inheritance, adaptation and natural selection.
The children have been very keen to share their existing knowledge of the events and causes of World War II in our History lessons and we will go on to examine the effects of the war on different members of society both at home, in Europe and across the World.
Some key dates for Year 6 this term are:
26th - 30th October: Half Term week
2nd November: INSET day
18th December: End of term 2pm
Kew Gardens visit
All three classes were very fortunate to be able to have a school trip to Kew Gardens at the end of September. They walked the two miles there in varying weather conditions on successive days and their behaviour on the journey was impeccable. Once at Kew, they were able to enjoy some free time before splitting up into two groups. Whilst one group had a talk on plant evolution and explored the samples brought by the session leader, the other group was able to explore some of the hot houses, the gardens and the Hive before everybody swapped over. Everyone enjoyed picnicking in the grounds before heading back to school.
