Welcome to Year 2!
Miss Bakrania (Owls) Miss Bolton (Doves) Miss Coombs (Robins)
Miss Mundo, Mrs Matthai and Mrs. Brenna
What a great start back to the second half of Autumn Term we have had!
In English we are continuing our focus on a range of Oliver Jeffers books. The children will be describing their own setting in space after reading ‘How to Catch a Star’. We will also be reading ‘Up and Down’ and then the children will be creating their own adverts for the circus. We will be revising descriptive and story writing skills, developing them further to include different techniques and vocabulary. For the next few weeks, we will be learning the story of ‘Lost and Found’ before writing our own versions.
In Maths, we have been recapping 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We will also be going over number bonds as well as learning new strategies for addition and subtraction. At the end of the term we will be looking at money.
The children have really enjoyed finding out about the consequences of the Great Fire of London, and are looking forward to building their own London houses!
Our living value this half term is ‘love’ and we will be doing lots of activities around this.
Our Science topic this half term is materials. We are investigating different types of materials, what objects are made from them, and how materials can be changed by applying different forces to them.
This term is also our turn for swimming. The children all really enjoyed their taster session last half term and are looking forward to weekly lessons in the pool. Doves will be on Monday, Owls on Tuesday and Robins on Wednesday.
