In maths, we have been investigating the different ways to make the number 5. The children explored how numbers can be combined to create 5, using objects, counting and singing! They discovered different pairs such as 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 and enjoyed explaining their thinking while working with their friends.

The children have also been very busy making their own paper kites and found so much joy in flying them outside. In literacy, we have been learning to write sentences, and the children have really impressed us with their imaginative ideas and their use of capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In maths, we have been exploring part–part–whole and learning that a whole is made up of different parts. The children enjoyed spotting and talking about the parts of objects and animals, for example recognising that the trunk is a part and the elephant is the whole.

In maths, we have been focusing on careful counting, making sure we count objects one at a time and don’t skip any. The children have been practising pointing to each object as they count to help make sure their counting is accurate. We have also been using fancy boxes and trays to collect and organise objects from around the classroom, as well as making our very own counting wands to help us remember to count carefully and slowly.

It has been a wonderful start to the half term and we are looking forward to exploring more traditional tales together!

The children loved working in groups to complete funky finger activities. These activities help them to develop their fine motor skills and include; threading cheerios, threading beads on pipe cleaners, making paper clip chains and joining paper friendship chains. We have also been making 'friendship' recipes. The children were able to think of lovely ideas about what makes a good friend. They have been enjoying our outside space during playtimes and have been busy making new friends.

In maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction as well as lots of number formation activities. The children decided that the scooters needed cleaning, so we set up our very own 'scooter wash'. The children loved washing the scooters with sponges and putting them back in the correct places by matching the numbers.
