Flying Frogs and Sutton HOO!

A Fantastic Start to the Year!

Year 5 have made a fantastic start to the year and have already been busy exploring, questioning and challenging themselves across the curriculum!

In English, we have dived into our new core text and there’s a twist… it doesn’t contain words! This has given the children the freedom to make predictions, draw their own conclusions and develop creative ideas, all while using increasingly exciting and ambitious vocabulary.

In Maths, we have been getting to grips with place value and building our confidence when reading, writing and recognising increasingly large numbers. We have even been venturing all the way up to one million. The children enjoyed discovering just how much each digit can change the value of a number depending on its position.

In History, we have travelled back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Anglo-Saxons. We have been learning about the incredible discovery of Sutton Hoo.

In Science, we have blasted off into the wonderful world of Space! The children have been soaking up fascinating facts about our universe while beginning to understand the enormous distances involved. We have also been exploring the idea of proportion, helping us to appreciate just how vast our solar system really is.

It has certainly been a busy and exciting start to Year 5, moving our bodies in tag rugby and dance and we can't wait to see where our learning takes us next!
