Beegu!

We have had a busy but brilliant two weeks in Year 1! All classes have now done their class assembly and we hope you enjoyed watching them.
In English we have finished the book ‘Where the Wild Things are’ and even had a class party! We wrote invitations for our party then a recount all about it. This week we have begun our new book which is ‘Beegu’. So far we have acted out some freeze frames, sequenced the story in a story map and also started to think about Beegu’s emotions throughout the book.
In maths we have been learning our number bonds to 20. We did this systematically so that we didn’t forget any. Then we have been learning all about doubles and using what we know about doubles to work out near doubles.
In science we have begun our new topic about animals. We classified animals into groups and then explored what makes an animal a mammal, fish, bird, reptile or amphibian.
In history we have finished our topic of the history of flight. We ordered transport on a timeline from hot air balloons to rocket ships. Then we designed our own aircraft thinking about what air travel might be like in 100 years time! There were lots of electic planes or planes with solar panels!
