Dear diary ...

What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 2! The children have worked incredibly hard and shown great enthusiasm across the curriculum. Here’s what we’ve been learning:
We continued reading Mary Poppins, focusing on the chapter 'Laughing Gas'. The children wrote diary entries from the characters’ points of view and created comic strips to retell the events. We focused on using the past tense, including simple and progressive forms, to improve our writing.
In maths, we have been adding money together. The children visited our imaginary Pudding Lane Bakery, where they practised using coins and learnt that 100p is equal to £1. This practical activity helped them develop confidence when working with money.
In PE, we continued our dance lessons continued this week as we moved to a count of 8. The children explored how to use their bodies to show different emotions, thinking carefully about how movement can change to reflect feelings.
In Geography, we learnt how to draw maps of our local area, before moving on to maps of London. The children included key London landmarks and used directional language to describe where places are located. We also used a key to help other people read our maps.
In science, we explored what humans and animals need to survive, including food, water, air, and shelter. The children made thoughtful links between the needs of different living things.
We can’t wait to share our Design and Technology (DT) learning with you next time!
Thank you for your continued support,
The Year 2 Team
