Future meteorologists!

Over the past couple of weeks we have become expert weather forecasters in our geography lessons and we are delighted to inform you that the sun is here to stay for a while! This week we also looked at how meteorologists use special equipment to forecast the weather.
In science, for our topic on plants, we have been looking at the trees in our playground and carefully observing the leaves to decide whether they are deciduous or evergreen. We also combined our maths skills to measure the leaves using cubes (please see pic above!).
In art, we used our paper sculpture skills to create a ‘Tree of life’ (It appears to have been a very tree themed kind of week!)
In our English lessons, we have continued our topic on traditional tales with a focus on the ‘Hare and the Tortoise’. With this, we have looked at the prefix ‘un’ and the suffix ‘er’ and included these in our sentence writing.
Finally, in maths, after a unit on multiplication, we have started division and have practised sharing objects in equal groups. We then moved on to representing the objects by drawing counters and groups.
We are also looking forward to our trip to Hobbledown on Friday to support our science learning (animals). Only one more sleep to go! Have a super weekend.
The Year 1 team.
