Reception have started their final half-term like busy, buzzy bees! We enjoyed the bee assembly and learnt so many different facts. Did you know a bee has smelly feet? Did you know bumblebees are important in helping to grow food like tomatoes? This was a great way to launch our new topic of 'Life in the undergrowth', where we will be looking at different invertebrates. We learnt that an invertebrate was an animal without a backbone. We were also amazed to learn that plants, trees and flowers were living things too! We read the book 'A nature trail' by Benjamin Zepinhiah and visiting our forest area. It was great fun! Next week we will focus on butterflies. We also loved linking our shape work in maths to create tangrams of different creatures.
Reception were extremely excited to take off on another plane journey this week. They flew to China full of excitement! We have been busy learning about the flag, the country, animals and the climate. The children enjoyed making craft flags and pandas.
In maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction as well as lots of number formation activities. The children decided that the scooters needed cleaning, so we set up our very own 'scooter wash'. The children loved washing the scooters with sponges and putting them back in the correct places by matching the numbers.
Let's see where we are flying off to next week.....
We have had a wonderful few weeks in Reception. Our book of the week was 'My Pet Star'. The children made their own special pet stars and then wrote some impressive sentences to describe them. In PSHE we have been learning about the importance of listening to instructions. We had a great afternoon completing a giant obstacle course in our playground. We had to listen carefully and then hop, skip, balance, climb and run. In maths we have been focusing on number bonds to 5 and 10. We have used cubes, counters, numicon and beads to make the bonds. We have also been busy designing amazing rockets, and we are so excited to make them on Friday during our Rocket Day!
We have had a fantastic half term in Reception exploring and learning about toys! To finish the topic, we made our own toys—paper kites—using bright colours and creative designs. After completing them, we took them outside to see how well they could fly in the wind. It was such an exciting experience watching them soar through the air!
We have had a fun packed few weeks in Reception. Last week we wrote our first sentences about toys. We remembered to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. This week we have been reading 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Tiger who came to Tea'. We used puppets and toys to re-tell the stories and made masks. The highlight of our week was celebrating 'The Chinese New year'. We had such an exciting time making lanterns, building the Great Wall of China outside and dancing with the dragon.
