Newsletter - Friday 23rd April 2021

Welcome to the Summer Term! It is hard to believe that we have just one term left of the academic year - we have lots of great things planned and wonderful opportunities for the children.  Some of the action kicks off next week with Year 4 and Year 5 going separately for an extended day visit to Juniper Hall, a Field Studies Centre near Dorking.  Although current restrictions mean that we cannot stay overnight, the children will be able to experience the fantastic environment of the Surrey Hills whilst learning about science and geography.  Further information about the visits, opportunities, performances and sports events ahead later in the term for other year groups will be made available as soon as possible.

Covid-19

Sorry that I have not been around this week, I am recovering from Covid-19 that I managed to catch during the Easter holiday! So, for those of you that had to isolate too over the break, I share your pain but am now thankfully free from isolation and feeling much better.  I look forward to seeing you on Monday and being able to catch up with everyone in school.

It has certainly highlighted to me how much further we have to go to beat this pandemic and the importance of continuing with our Covid-19 protocols.  The children will be continuing to operate in their separate bubbles, maintaining effective hand hygiene practices and working outside or in well-ventilated classrooms.  Please can you continue to do your bit too by considering using the lateral flow tests twice weekly if you are asymptomatic, ensuring that anyone with Covid symptoms stays isolated and gets a PCR test, keeping socially distanced in the queue and on the school site and continuing to wear your mask! Thank you.

Headteacher Recruitment

You will have seen today the letter from Justine Hebert regarding the headteacher recruitment process.  We are of course disappointed that we were unable to appoint in the first round but know what a strong team we will have in place to lead the school into the Autumn Term.  I have every confidence that everyone will work together to continue the excellent learning at Sheen Mount.

Education Grants

Are you looking to study or retrain but not sure you can afford it?  RPLC offers non-repayable education grants to residents from low-income households in TW9, TW10, SW13 & SW14.  Grants can be used towards expenses, such as course fees, travel, childcare, equipment and materials.  For more information, contact Amy Vogel: amy@rplc.org.uk or apply online for an education grant: rplc.org.uk/education-support.
