Fun in the compost heap!

In science, we are learning about the classification system created by Carl Linnaeus, which we still use today. The five animal kingdoms are bacteria, protists, plants, animals and fungi.

Over the last week, we have been focusing on bacteria and protists. We visited the school compost heap to measure the temperature compared with other locations. Our findings showed that there are more bacteria in the compost than in other areas as the compost temperature was much higher: bacteria produce heat.  We recorded the results as a bar chart to compare the data.

Thank you to Mrs Hay for taking such great care of the school gardens and sharing your knowledge with Year 6.
